Construction of Perpendicular Bisector

Construction of Perpendicular Bisector:

Let us draw the perpendicular bisector of a line segment AB of length 6.8 cm.

To bisect a line segment means dividing the line segment into two equal halves

Steps of Construction:

Step 1.  Draw a line segment AB equal to 6.8 cm.   [fig. required (pg. no. 205)]

Step 2. With A as centre and radius more than half of AB, draw two arcs on either side of AB.

Step 3. Join X and Y intersecting AB at O. Then XY is the perpenicular bisector of AB.

            Check whether angle XOB=90^{circ} and AO = OB = 3.4 cm

           [Fig. required (pg. no. 206)]
